Fire is sacred to the Nepalese, particularly the kitchen fire and most kitchens are off limits to strangers. It seemed that the guesthouses and teahouses were used to trekkers taking photos as I was regularly allowed in the kitchens. We also cooked at one of the guesthouses.
In Sikha, our porters killed 2 chickens, cleaned and cooked them. They made a curry chicken that was fabulous. In Ghorepani, we made momos and apple pie. It was great fun to be chopping vegetables and to cook a meal with my friends.
We met a couple from London that had found a cooking class in Kathmandu with Social Tours. So when I got back there, Krit, fellow trekker, and I signed up for a class. We ended up making momos again, which was fine because I still need lots of practice to fold the dough. The class was great and I would go back for another one.
